And now for the LDS book review…
The Silence of God by Gale Sears
On an organization session with my business, Design & Conquer, the woman I was organizing for wanted me to borrow this book. I have to admit I judged this book by its title. I thought it must be about someone who didn’t have any faith, because I know Heavenly Father is not silent in our lives. I found out it is not about Heavenly Father’s silence; It is about the silencing of all things pertaining to religion and God.
This book is set in Russia during a very trying time for the Russian people. Revolutions, government collapses, food shortages, prison camps, separation from family and friends, oppression, death, hate, despair… These are the problems faced by the Lindlof family (the only LDS family in Russia at the time). The power of a family working together and overcoming great obstacles is very strengthening to me.
I now understand why she wanted me to borrow this book; it has many mirrors for what the world and our country are going through today. It sure made me appreciate the blessings I have in my life, and reminded me to be grateful that I still have the opportunity to share my beliefs with others.
